I just don't listen
to tech support folks that say to never run update programs. I am
sorry, but they just don't get it. I am not
big on fiddle factor mind you. Just about every version of Microsoft
"operating ?" system contains huge gaping security holes big enough to
drive
a school bus through. Since Windows 2000 service pack 1 Microsoft
has been doing pretty well with compatibility issues. Just try each
update on one backed up system for a few days before you deploy to
everyone
else. I am on Win 2000 sp-2 with one additional bug fix and very happy
with
it at the moment. If you are running NT 4.0 I like sp-5 and sp-6a is
sorta
OK too. Windows 98? Ok for home use if you don't mind a restart or two
here
and there - a restart or two here and there. Windows me? To quote Bill
and
Alice "Just Say NO" Folks in the unix / linux community have been
running
security and update patches since way before DOS.
| Microsoft Windows
Update | Plug those leaks now! Critical updates are just
that... Critical. Be sure to get all of what they call advanced
security updates now. If you use MS Internet Explorer at all I
recommend MSIE version 5.5 with service pack 2 and the |
q313675 hotfix patch.!
| ZD Net Software Updates |
Update that "new" software with a newer version with less bugs. The ZD
net update service also is more aggressive with thier recommended
Microsoft security patches than Microsoft themselves.
