If you have more than six or ten
computers in your company network you should begin implementing a
centralized administration program. That should help with the fiddle
factor for sure. The corporate version of Norton Anti-virus is a good
place to start. If you have folks that like to custom configure their
"own" systems, policy implementations can help with that too.
"Help! My system keeps crashing." 'Where did that new
screen saver come from?' I asked. "It downloads new ones every day,
isn't it cool?" He says. Hmm, I wonder if that is why I can't get any
data through the internet connection every afternoon from about 2:30
'til 3:00. 'Come on man, you only have a 166 MHz box with 32 MB of RAM.
You are doing good to be able to run Excel 2000 with that 4 MB
inventory file. No more screen savers, animated cursors, and
streaming media until you get a new 800 MHz system with 128 MB of
RAM and we get a better ISP!' He wants to argue. I just shake my head
and walk away.
